The Enemy Within - Infiltration and Disruption Operations in Social Media

On the Battlefield that is social media its extremely important to remember the following.. the enemy, is everywhere and they do not always make it obvious.

In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the supportive movement #NAFO keep in mind the enemy may not always rock a ruzzian flag in their handle or bio. The enemy has NAFO infiltration accounts, there are scammers, grifters and worse. This blog will address a number of these threats.

Far too often I see a situation arise where a small or non existent problem within a supportive community, is amplified and weaponized by the enemy. And it doesn't take much. A small snowball rolls down a hill and it grows beyond control. Here, information is weaponized and quickly turns into a perpetual feedback loop of destruction easily amplified by bad actors on social media. A small account shares or starts a rumor, shares a misleading news article or perpetuates drama and soon the situation is out of control and dividing us all. I feel this is in part due to the unprepared and unaware. Part of why I created this site was to help educate everyone in supportive movements like NAFO and people in general in regards to the threats we all face every day on the internet. Infiltration unfortunately, is a big problem and hopefully this will help address it.

The Strategy of Divide and Conquer is as old as warfare itself. In the context of hybrid warfare, the idea of driving a wedge into a supportive movement is classic ruzzian playbook tactics. There have been many examples of this documented showing ruzzian troll farms exploiting social media not only to cause trouble online, but kinetic trouble in real life. Example being Protest vs Protest .. Facebook groups created by ruzzian troll farms to organize and promote both sides of a protest event. Racists vs Anti-Racist protestors as the vague example. There it is. Read it again, and share with a friend. Because i am absolutely fed the fuck up trying to get a handle on any number of ongoing bad situations among friends and community members only to become the target. Of both the enemy, and the fire starters within any movement in general that we will just say for now.. may not be there for the right reasons.

The acronym M.I.C.E. could be used when attempting to understand the motivation for a traitor to be working for the enemy intentionally or... unintentionally. Maybe its due to money, ideology, compromise, ego or any combination of these factors.. maybe the motivation isn't relevant. Those who perpetuate drama, nonsense, disinformation, attacks and worse because they have feels, opinions and questions that are far more important than the bigger picture have either lost perspective or never had an accurate perspective to begin with. The situation in Ukraine.. is a war. And while we allow ourselves to be exploited by the enemy and squabble amongst ourselves on social media.. innocent people die in Ukraine. Ending that, is the priority. That is the bigger picture and I don't care how big your donation dick is, keep that in mind before swinging it around in peoples faces thinking that it gives your thoughts in general more value than those of others who donate less or maybe just donate their time. "Oh yeah? Well how much have YOU donated?" is never an acceptable response in disagreements over anything in general.

Virtue Signaling .. the act of expressing opinions or stances that align with popular moral values, often through social media, with the intent of demonstrating one's good character. While the expression might sometimes be sincere, it is frequently used to suggest that the person is more concerned with appearing virtuous than with actually supporting the cause or belief in question.

When a persons focus is on perpetuating a bad situation in the interest of personal validation of their feelings.. to the detriment of people dying in a war zone.. they are either in it for the wrong reason and unknowingly working for the enemy.. or they are knowingly working for the enemy. In either case, they are the enemy of every supportive movement they touch.

 When I look at an account with the appearance of supporting Ukraine, and look at their interaction.. and see only nonsense and drama dividing the community.. I don't care who they are, where they are from or their motivation.. all I see, is an enemy disinformation ammunition factory. These accounts ARE the wedge that divides us all. Remove the fire-starters from your life or burn beside them. When you, and others are focused on drama, you are not focusing on support. Its all about time management. Our time on this earth is limited. Act accordingly.

This brings us to what i would hope is obvious to all... the supportive account created after 2022 with a Ukrainian flag in their bio and handle... may have been spawned by the enemy. Russian troll farms are still going strong, and it don't take long, to spawn a fake account. Even given my background I'm not impervious to such. A ways back an account sent me a DM asking about joining our awesome little group of NAFO Fellas #NAFOclandestineOpsGroup ... when they were denied, they went forth to tell the world what a doo-doo head I am.. truth is, secret squirrel me figured it out and blocked them. Not long after.. confirmation. The enemy himself posting images of our conversation. So please.. after reading this blog, and viewing this image... give it another read and remember when you see drama and division.. that the Kremlin disinformation machine is at work, one way or another.. and its not always obvious. Don't trust newly created accounts is the best advice i have to offer.

As time goes on, sociology dictates that disagreements will occur. Differences of opinion, petty political nonsense, some people just don't work well together. And that's fine. Add to the equation the fact that the cause we have all gathered to support, is a war.. and these problems will be amplified. Media fatigue is a thing. When I was a music producer.. sometimes I would get sick of making and hearing music. When music became my job, if I didn't work, I didn't eat.. and that took a lot of the fun out of it. Fortunately for us, we have #NAFO !!! Anything that can generate smiles, in the face of something as ugly as war.. is a blessing. The memes, the fellas and all the amazing forgers.. i am forever grateful for all of them. But it is important to remember.. that this, is a war. If you are reading this, you are on the front lines.. of the information and narrative war. And the enemy.. is everywhere. Lurking and waiting to take advantage of every bad situation they can amplify. But here, it is more important than ever, to remember that sometimes we need to just adult the fuck up, and adjust or regain proper perspective of our priorities.

Don't like someone.. don't work with them. Don't trust a charity.. donate to a different one. Don't like an organization.. support someone else. Its really not that difficult folks. In warfare in order to obtain some measure of victory or success ... there first must be a clearly defined objective. There is nothing to be gained, by attacking each other.. and when you see such, ask yourself.. what are the motivating factors at play. Then avoid the situation all together.
